They don't look like they're falling, they actually look like they're neatly stacked.

Ha if you're the sens you swap Stone for your first in a heartbeat. Hell, sweeten the deal and give insurance picks if he doesn't sign if COL and give Stone the wink wink to accept an offer from the Sens in the off season.

It would definitely fix the mess they're in. They could also do something like that with another team and Duschene, explaining to both of them you want them long term but would like to get some assets that could be used to build around Stone and Duschene so they can see they're not wasting good years of their career in a protracted rebuild.

If the Islanders need a centre, why not go after Duchene. Barzal and Duchene down the middle for the next 8 years gives the team something legit to build around, a solid core for UFAs to want to join and a better 1-2 punch. Plus is Brassard really a 2nd line centre anymore? I haven’t seen him play in a while but it’s sounds like his play has really dropped off from where he used to be.

Yes, the Avalanche are only 4 points out of a playoff spot, but they're 22-23-11 and 23rd in the NHL.

Trade for Stone? Nah. Keep going down and potentially end up with 2 of the top 3 picks.

I agree Brassard is more of a 3C at this point. Duchene would be a great depending on the price. Would not mind trying to sign him as an FA.

They'd likely have to trade one of Johnsson or Kapanen this off season.

Unless they trade Nylander for a cheaper signed defenseman instead.

Wait... do you think Gudas costs $15 million per season? Because you're shipping out almost that much salary in this scenario...

Buddy look at the cap. They have 11 million to sign 9 players. Including Marner (10-11 Mil), Kap ( bridge 2-3 years around 3-4) and Johnsson ( bridge 2-3 years around 2-3).
So best case is 15 million for those players and league minmum for the other 5 puts you at 20 million. which is 9 million over the cap.

You add Gudas 3.35 million next year and then they will have to get rid of 12 million and have three rookies/ entry level players on defense.

The cap will likely rise to $83 million next year.

They can exceed the salary cap by $5.3 Million due to Horton still being on LTIR next year.

If those three cost $15 million, they'll still have $1.4 million in space. They'd have to make a move no doubt, but it's not as dire as you make it seem.

You think both Kapanen and Johnsson are both going to sign bridge deals? If I was Kapanen, I’d laugh and walk out. Johnsson doesn’t have the leverage Kappy does, but there is no way he is taking 2-3 on a bridge either. That’s wishful thinking.

I used 83 mil cap in my calcs. they have 72 million committed next year. and it will cost more then 15 million for those three. That was best case. So if you get rid of Horton contract then you will have 1.4 million to sign 6 more players.
